My Path to Vashon and John L. Scott

Over 20 years ago, my husband and I came to Vashon Island for the first time and bought our house that same day. Most people are not that impulsive, but we have never regretted our “leap of faith” that lead us to our wonderful island life with its rural charm and small town style.

I’m a Northwest native and began a real estate career in 1998. In 1969, I founded a successful antique restoration business in Los Angeles which I ultimately sold to my employees and then spent the next 10 years as a field sales specialist with 3M Company in San Francisco and “back home” in Seattle. My understanding of both small and big company business dynamics, along with my passion for Vashon Island and the Northwest lifestyle, have proven to be a solid background for my real estate career.

It’s Not Just about Money

Obviously, the purchasing or selling of real estate is an important business event; for most of us, it is the biggest investment decision we will ever make. With large sums of money changing hands, it is easy to lose sight of the more human aspects of the transaction: the complex emotions, the spirit of the negotiation, the excitement, and the fun. Yes, fun! I believe that how everyone experiences a real estate transaction has as much to do with its success as the basic agreement on price and terms. My job is not only to manage the business details, but also to manage the total experience, insuring that it is a positive one for all involved. I am a successful, creative agent who thinks that this business is fun and that structuring “good” transactions from both a business and personal perspective is my most important objective.

My Commitment to Community

At John L. Scott, we’re committed to community involvement through our John L. Scott Foundation and the activities of our agents on a local level. I’ve donated my time and artistic talent to the publicity efforts of the Vashon Allied Art annual Art Auction and to the promotion of many other island organizations and causes. I am a board member of the Vashon Island Chamber of Commerce and am active in my church, where I helped head the interior committee during the 1999-2000 restoration of the church’s historic building. Vashon is a vibrant, talent-filled community with endless opportunities for participation and fulfillment.
